I Knitted A Shawl!

As you all know, I am still a beginning knitter.  My husband and I went to Bird In Hand, Pennsylvania this past summer in Amish country and I went into this shop called Labadie Looms and  I thought I died and went to heaven!  The owner was sitting and spinning her own yarn and then she showed me how she dyed it.  She had these hugh weaving machines for sale and I could of bought one of everything.  She had all these shawls made up with these hand spun yarns and they were gorgeous.  She has a website it is:  http://www.labadielooms.com/

I finally finished this shawl yesterday.  I must be a really slow knitter!!  It was so crunched on my knitting needles, I could not see the size of it until I finished it.  Now that it is done, I think it could be bigger.  It does measure the size it is suppose to be, but it just seems skimpy to me and kind of plain.

I paid $50.00 for this yarn, which I must of been out of my mind and caught up in the moment!!  I don't have anymore, so does anyone know what I can do to extend it a little more?  I thought maybe I could find a very soft Mohair yarn to add something around the edges of it that would match.  Remember I am a beginner so don't make it to hard.  The yarn I purchased was a Mohair/Rayon blend.  It really is prettier than the picture is showing (You can click on it to enlarge the picture).  Any suggestions and help would be appreciated!  Thanks, Cindy

My Squirrel Is At It Again!!

I caught him in action this morning.  He was sitting on my clothes line rope just chewing away!  The pictures are not the greatest, I took them through my kitchen window,
He just untied the knot again!!
Here is the rope laying on the ground again.  Now the other day I saw him just sitting on the rope eating a nut and I thought he was beginning to like the rope, but I guess not!!  What a naughty, naughty squirrel!!

I also am planning to make a couple more videos.  If anyone has any ideas of what they would like or maybe need to learn a special attachment for the sewing machine, serger or something they have trouble with, just let me know and I will see what I can do!

My First Leather Project!

We bought one of our granddaughters, the oldest, a used drum set for Christmas.  I hope she learns to play this.  She plays the drums in the school band.  There was a tiny hole in the stool, so I decided to recover it.  I have never sewn with leather, so this was a new experience for me.  I did this several weeks ago, but I could not post it because I was afraid she would see it on my blog.  She likes to keep up on Grandma and see what I post.
Here is what I removed from the seat.  I took the cover apart and used that as my pattern.  The cushion still seemed to be in perfect condition so I reused it.

I cut out my circle and then folder the circle in half and then half again to find the center and placed a dot with my ink pen.  Then I drew another circle on the back of the leather in about 1/2 inch.  This was going to be my sewing line.  I knew I had to be perfect the first time because you cannot rip out mistakes without the holes showing.

I am top stitching around the edge of the seat cushion

Then I stapled the cushion back on to the wood base.
Here is the finished seat.  I also painted her some designer drum sticks.  She loved them!!

Did anyone get this Design for Free!!! Hurry!!

I sewed this design out for Christmas!  It just sewed beautifully!  It was a little slow going and you had to read the directions very carefully, but it was well worth it.  This design is available until Dec.31.  Better go grab It!!  The design comes with 2012 on it, but I took it into my digitizing software and changed the wording to add the name.  If you can't change the year, I will do it for you next year.  The little teddy bear comes out of the pocket and I thought it would also be very cute to sew it in pink and make a little tutu for the teddy bear.  Just an idea!

Candle Wax On My Quilt Update!!!

I just wanted to say a great big thank you to everyone who wrote to me about getting that wax out of my precious quilt.  Well, it worked and it is all out.  I really can't believe it, I thought sure it was ruined.  I did what everyone said.  First I put my quilt in the freezer and scraped off as much of the wax as possible and then I ironed over the wax spot with clean paper towels until all the wax disappeared.

After the wax was all out, I had a great big oil stain.  He is my trick to get out grease.  I sprayed it with a grease relief product and then the trick is to rub it with a bar of Fels Napa.  Yes, good old Fels Napa.  I love it.  I very carefully washed the quilt and hung it on my line in the basement and all the grease is gone.  This is what I use for all my stains.  I usually spray with Shout and rub with the Fels Napa.  It pretty much works on everything!

Yesterday I have been working on a dress for a cousin of mine.  She bought it in New York and it had an invisible zipper put in it.  The zipper was broken and needed replaced.  The dress is 100% silk.  Oh my, what a mess I had.  This dress was made never to be taken apart.  It is a Juicy couture sewn dress.  It had steps in it that I have never seen before.  The zipper is in the side seam.  I worked for hours trying to remove these little tiny stitches without tearing the thin silk.  I used a gigantic magnifying glass.  The dress has a band that runs around the waist and I was having trouble putting in the new zipper and having that band match up.  The silk was stretching.  I finally had to iron a small strip of iron on stabilizer to it.  I did get the zipper put back in and now I have to see if I can do these special techniques to put this dress back together like they had it.  It probably isn't necessary, but I am going to see if I can do it.  The zipper had matching material running down both sides of the zipper and they used a different technique to hold the bottom of the zipper down to the dress.  Pretty interesting!  I thought I was a good sewer, but they are way better than I am!  ( unless they have special machines to do these tricks) LOL!!

Please Read, I Need Help With Wax On My Quilt!!

I received one of those candles that has the light bulb in it and you place the wax cubes on top.  I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and was just thinking how much I really love this.  It makes the house smell sooo nice.

Well, I went to move it for Thanksgiving and boy did I get a surprise.  I had it sitting on one of my good quilts and apparently, the wax melted down over the lid or else it has a crack in it or something.  I have a big wax spot now on my quilt.  Here is a picture, you can see the dark spot.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting this wax out of my quilt.  It went all the way through the quilt.  I just hasn't been my week!!  I would sure appreciate any help!!  Cindy

Something Is In My Flower Pot! - Continued.......

Well, guess what!  My husband got home and opened up the garbage bag and nothing was in there.  Now I know I am not crazy, there was something in that plant.  It probably jumped out when I was trying to get the garbage bag over it.  Good thing I did not know this all day!

I didn't really feel like cooking after that, I just felt like everything was dirty.  Who knew where this little mouse, or what ever it is, could of been.  Did he walk on my kitchen counters?  I wiped everything in the kitchen down with clorox wipes before I started cooking.

My hubby said it was possible it could be a mole and that it bore down into the dirt of the flower pot to hide.  My plant looks O.K., so we put it in the garage.  I guess we will keep it out there for a few days.  We are getting ready to go to bed and he set a trap in the dining room to see if something is in the house.

I always set my table the night before Thanksgiving and then throw a sheet over it.  Well, not this year.  I could just see that mouse walking across my dishes and then we would be eating off of them.  Now I will have to add that to my list of jobs in the morning.

You would think that we live out in the country, but we don't, we live in the city.  Last year we had a problem with tree frogs getting into the house.  That is just as bad, I am cleaning and a frog jumps out at me.  I think we finally found out how they were getting in.  They were coming in through the fire place.  One morning we came downstairs and four of them were jumping around in the house.  I guess it could also be a frog in the plant.  Just wish we could see what it is.  Oh well, maybe we will have something in the trap in the morning.

No nothing in the trap.  I looked at that bag several times during the day and the garbage bag was moving, I thought sure there was something in there, I guess it could of been the wind.  My husband got home when I wasn't there and opened up the bag.  I wish I could of watched to see if anything got away when he was not looking.

Now what do I do, is it gone, is it still in the house?  My husband will be home for a few days, but I just know it will show up on Tuesday when he goes back to work.  That is always my luck!
