Cute Christmas Tags!!

http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/Products.aspx?Catalog=Emblibrary&ProductID=X0288

I saw these tags on Emblibrary.com and loved them.  They are very detailed when you sew them out.  I have three made and they are very cute.  I didn't write names on the back.   I am just going to attach one to each special present and let it dangle like an ornament.  That way they can be passed around for years.

The first one I sewed out was the Santa tag.  They recommend that you sew them out on material and I followed the directions to a tee.  You cut out the exact shape of the tag and spray temporary spray and lay it on your hooped stabilizer.  Then when you are almost finished sewing the design, you stop and remove the hoop, turn it over and add the other cut to size material to the bottom of the hoop with temporary adhesive and finish sewing the design.  When I had it all sewed out, it sews onto a piece of tear away stabilizer.  Next, I took it out of the hoop and tore off the tearaway stabilizer, I had all these little hairs of white stabilizer showing.  The design looked good all except for the edges where I had to tear it.  I wasn't very happy with that because I thought that just ruined the whole design.  I then tried to resew the edge of the design myself to cover up the stabilizer hairs and now it just looks ok.  Remember, I am the perfectionist.

Then I thought to myself why don't I try this with felt and just sew out the design and then trim around the edges close to the sewing. What I did for the ones that I sewed out on felt, was I sewed out the top layer with the design totally, I did not cut out the exact shape, just a section of felt.  I unhooped it and sandwiched another layer of the felt to the back, also not cut to the shape and then I sewed the front and back layers together around the design on the edge.  Then I trimmed the felt with my curve scissors as close as I wanted it.  I think these are much cuter.  Now, if you wanted to add a name to the back, you could do this before you add the two sides together. I added the link for the designs just in case anyone is interested in them.  They come in lots of different shapes and sized tags.  Very cute!! This turned out perfect.  I love the other two that I have finished.  After I sewed them and trimmed the edges, I gave them a steam with a pressing cloth and they are just so cute!  They are stiff because the stabilizer is inside the design and a little bit puffy.

Do you like them??
