I just wanted to say a great big thank you to everyone who wrote to me about getting that wax out of my precious quilt. Well, it worked and it is all out. I really can't believe it, I thought sure it was ruined. I did what everyone said. First I put my quilt in the freezer and scraped off as much of the wax as possible and then I ironed over the wax spot with clean paper towels until all the wax disappeared.
After the wax was all out, I had a great big oil stain. He is my trick to get out grease. I sprayed it with a grease relief product and then the trick is to rub it with a bar of Fels Napa. Yes, good old Fels Napa. I love it. I very carefully washed the quilt and hung it on my line in the basement and all the grease is gone. This is what I use for all my stains. I usually spray with Shout and rub with the Fels Napa. It pretty much works on everything!
Yesterday I have been working on a dress for a cousin of mine. She bought it in New York and it had an invisible zipper put in it. The zipper was broken and needed replaced. The dress is 100% silk. Oh my, what a mess I had. This dress was made never to be taken apart. It is a Juicy couture sewn dress. It had steps in it that I have never seen before. The zipper is in the side seam. I worked for hours trying to remove these little tiny stitches without tearing the thin silk. I used a gigantic magnifying glass. The dress has a band that runs around the waist and I was having trouble putting in the new zipper and having that band match up. The silk was stretching. I finally had to iron a small strip of iron on stabilizer to it. I did get the zipper put back in and now I have to see if I can do these special techniques to put this dress back together like they had it. It probably isn't necessary, but I am going to see if I can do it. The zipper had matching material running down both sides of the zipper and they used a different technique to hold the bottom of the zipper down to the dress. Pretty interesting! I thought I was a good sewer, but they are way better than I am! ( unless they have special machines to do these tricks) LOL!!
