What a day, I am having!! I wanted to sew a simple serger project. I was changing the needle and dropped the tiny screw that holds in the needle into the machine. I worked for hours trying to find that screw. I cleaned it out and tried using a magnet. No screw! Then I turned this heavy machine upside down and heard it rattling. So I shook it and cleaned it all out again! No Screw! Then I tried shaking it again and there was no more rattle. I knew I was in trouble now! I had to practically completely unassemble this machine. I took pictures so you can see my mess and maybe what the inside of a serger looks like.
First are my pieces and parts and hopefully, I will know how to replace everything and get all the screws back into the right places.
Now here is my bare looking machine!
After all of this, I still could not find the screw. So I picked it up and gave it a good shake again, and finally look what fell out!
There is the little trouble maker!! Now probably most women would have to take their machine to a dealer and have them find it, but I am one of those women that love to take things apart!! So now I am going to go have some lunch and put this machine back together. While I have it opened up, I will give it a thorough cleaning and oil some of these parts in the back of the machine. After about 6 hours of working on this machine, I should be able to do my little serger project.
I just thought I would give everyone the benefit of my mistake, make sure you are paying close attention when you are changing needles and I think from now on, I am going to lay a cloth over my serger before I ever change another needle!!! I have read that advice from other sewers, but we always think it won't happen to us! I was afraid if I left that screw in there it might jam up my machine and that would be very costly!! Has this ever happened to anyone else??
