Serger Blanket Finally Finished!

I have been working on this blanket for two weeks.  This was the project I started when I dropped the needle screw into my serger.  I just cannot get my regular blanket stitch to work on this blanket.  I have finally come to the conclusion that it just does not like this material. This was different from what I usually purchase.  I always try and buy the Blizzard fleece, it is my favorite.   I had to decide to finish it in another way.

The material was very busy, so I added in a solid piece of fleece with my youngest grandson's name embroidered on it so it would show up.  I had first embroidered right onto the blanket and the letters just got lost in the print.  Sooo, then I embroidered it on the black fleece and sewed it on the blanket over top of the other embroidery.  Then I cut that section out of the back after I was finished.  Remember I sew two layers of fleece together for my blankets.  This way I had no added bulk.  To finish the hem, I sewed it around the edge about 1 inch in from the edge with a "Briar" stitch on the Janome machine.  I like the way it turned out.  It looks like a feather stitch and I took a picture for you to see.  What do you think?  I am just glad it is finished.

Hi Cynthia,
I watched your video of edging the fleece blanket. I love the idea of how you made the fleece blanket. My mom sew the two piece of fleece together. We bought it to our local drycleaner who has an industrial serger. She told us it cannot be done :-( I insisted it can as I have see your video.
It is possible to use the YLI Pearl Crown Rayon with the Janome 7034D Magnolia Serger? I tried using the YLI Pearl Crown Rayon Thread with my new Janome Magnolia 7330 regular sewing machine but it keeps jamming when sewing a straight stitch. It would be great if you could share some insights as to what we can do what you did with the edging. Thanks so much!

Hi Jess,

I have the full directions in my archives under last March. Now, I did not use pearl cotton. What I used was Red Heart Crochet Thread #10. You can find this about anywhere. I know Walmart carries it. I use this in the lower looper. I hope this helps, my machine sews with it and It does not have any problems. If I can answer any other questions, just let me know.
