Sew/Serge A Professional Looking Fleece Blanket in 45 Minutes
FLEECE BLANKET VIDEO AND SETTINGS
www,cynsew.com
I serge with a Janome Compulock. I purchase 3 yards of fleece for my blankets and cut it in half. I use two layers making my blanket 1 1/2 yards long.
My cutting knife is lowered, you do not want to use the knife for this stitch.
I set my machine up for a 3 THREAD OVEREDGE STITCH
Right Needle removed
Left Needle is set at 3.0 and is threaded with serger thread
Upper Looper is set at 3.0 and is threaded with 300M wooly nylon
Lower Looper is set at 4.8 and is threaded with #10 crochet thread
Stitch Length is 4.0
Differential feed was set at 1.0
If your machine does not have the ability to use these settings, just set your particular machine up for the 3 THREAD OVEREDGE stitch and tho only real change I made was to the lower looper.
I set the lower looper to 4.8(tightening the stitch) so the thread would wrap the stitch to the back side of the blanket. Usually the lower looper and the upper looper thread meet in the middle at the edge of your material. I changed the setting so the lower looper pulled the thread off of the middle edge of the material and pulled it to more of the backside of the material. So now the front looper thread wrapped around the front of the blanket over the edge of the blanket and ended about 1/2 way down on the back of the blanket.

What brand of serger machine did you used?
Thanks again!
I use a Janome Compulock Model
#888. Anything else I can help with just let me know!
I enjoyed your video and learned from it. I have been sewing since I took Home Ec in 8th grade, but I'm brand new to using a serger. I've chosen a baby blanket as my first project. Will your edging method also work with a double layer of flannel rather than fleece? Would I use the same threads? Thanks.
Did you post the seam allowances anywhere? I didn't see them.
Thanks.
Love the tutorial. Keep up the good work
What embroidery font did you use?
Just found your video/instructions. Wanted to make a 2 layer fleece blanket and I wanted to know did you "hand stitch" the 12 in. opening you had for turning your work, or just leave it & hemmed it as you did the edging? I'm using a new Janome Serger that I got for Christmas (early) so this will be my 1st project on it. so still learning on the serger..
loved your tutorial. Have 7 fleece blankets to make for Christmas for my grandchildren. I have a brother serger but can't figure out how you were able to use such a large font. Help!

Beautiful blankets! What is the name of the font you're using on the blankets? Thank you!
Thank you for posting this video! Did you serge over your beginning threads at the end to lock them down? I couldn't tell where your beginning tail was where you started your serging. Maybe you had already cut it off. I want to make sure I am locking down my threads properly, so the blanket edge won't unravel in the wash.
Thanks!
Kim
Did you use a walking foot when you first sewed the throw?
Hi Cindy,
Some asked about the font you used on the blanket. I am interested in the machine that you used to embroider your grandson's name. I have a Brother SE400, which uses a 4 x 4 hoop. I understand that you do not "hoop" when stitching on fleece; that you don't use wash away "interfacing," but you do use a tear-away interfacing on the back. Kindly, advise brand i.e., Pellon, and if Pellon, which specific tear-away; there's a number on the end of the bolt, so which number. Thank you in advance.
I did this with cuddle fleece. When I turned it right side out the fabric started ripping. I I used an 5/8 inch seem allowance .
I used a zig zag stitch so it would not fray.
Any ideas as to what I did wrong ?
Many thanks
thank you.
Hi Cyn
I thank you so much for making this video and sharing it.
What stitch do you use to make the names?
Is it a satin stitch?
Please answer the questions. They are all very good and need responses. Thank you. You mention that you want to help anyone learning, this is your opportunity. Thank you.
The names were digitized with a fill stitch.
Great tutorial!
